When You’ve Got The Place To Yourself

Stone Arch Bridge Sometimes Gracefully Stone Arch Bridge Sometimes Gracefully

Darrin took his dad to a U of MN Gopher basketball game last night, so I had the apartment and night to myself. Before you get married, nobody ever discusses the importance of “me time” in a marriage. There’s a whole lot of talk concerning you and your spouse…how to communicate, how to argue, how to encourage and celebrate each other, etc.Β  While I can certainly give testament to the fact that marriage is work and requires you to continually place another person before yourself {if you’re not into that, then I don’t recommend getting married and having a family…}, it’s nice to find moments where you can connect back with yourself and enjoy a little “me time” doing whatever relaxing activity your heart desires. Last night after Darrin left, I met my girlfriends for a memorable happy hour, came home and changed into my fleece pajamas, poured myself a small glass of wine, and fell asleep early after finishing a short detective story. Yes, I did miss my handsome redhead and concluded that I liked falling asleep with him next to me better than apart from me, but I did enjoy those few hours to myself!

So what do you do when you’ve got the place to yourself? Growing up, I loved being home alone. It was just me, the dogs, a good book, and probably a few too many chocolate chip cookies or ice cream sandwiches. That high school metabolism was amazing.

On a different note, Darrin downloaded Snapchat the other night. Now, instead of text messages, my husband sends me Snapchats that document is short message {Darrin never sends long messages} and his facial expression that adequately matches his response. I’ve got so many “Darebear Selfies” saved onto my phone….I need to make a collage or something. I’m thinking that our future children will one day want to see these pictures. πŸ˜‰

Hope you’re having a great Thursday! The weekend is almost here!

The last time I had the house to myself I picked up an apple pie slice from a local coffee shop and brought it home and ate it before taking a nap- this was like 11 mos. ago though. Good luck when you have kids.
