That Other Windy City

Sometimes Gracefully Iowa

Darrin and I took a little trip with my family down to Iowa this past weekend, and we were greeted by 30 mph winds that I embarrassingly admitted on Monday blew me off the curb and almost dropped me face-first onto the cement sidewalk. The wind was so powerful. Our little college is located in the upper corner of Northwest Iowa, and the wind will sometimes carry the smells from the nearby farms, meat-packing industries, and restaurant chains through the campus. Sounds lovely, am I right? πŸ˜‰

As quirky as the wind can be, Darrin and I loved visiting our old stomping grounds {he also loved rocking that Batman shirt, by the way}. We walked around with my baby sisters {one of whom is now engaged and graduating from college in a few weeks….yikes} and swapped stories about certain buildings and events and classes and the like. If I could go back in time, I’d first relive my wedding day {I mean, DUH…}, but then I’d travel back to some random college night when I’d be watching television in Darrin’s apartment, eating lobster biscuits {we were “classy”} and talking with our college buddies. I realize how uneventful that may sound {feel free to roll your eyes and exclaim “Oh brother! My grandma does the same thing on the weekends! Pishaw!”}, but those were some of the best evenings. We pushed aside all of our to-dos and just spent the night talking and laughing and eating a whole lot of lobster biscuits. I’m all about that kind of living.

The weather back here in Minneapolis has been cold and dreary and straight out of an Edgar Allen Poe story, so I’ve been somewhat loving it. However, I’m definitely ready for some sun. Darrin and I have been talking about all of these things that we’re going to do this summer, but I haven’t written any of them down, so once I find myself a nice gel pen {everything is better/legitimate once it’s written with a gel pen…if only our Founding Fathers had gel pens, am I right?} and a pretty piece of stationary, I’ll share that list with you all! Gotta hold me accountable! πŸ˜‰

Thanks for reading!

We live on the top of a hill and it’s usually fairly windy, but a couple days ago it was extremely windy here–I didn’t even go out to get the mail because I didn’t want to get knocked over!
