When Four’s a Crowd

Sometimes Gracefully Green-1 Sometimes Gracefully Green-2 Sometimes Gracefully Green-4 Sometimes Gracefully Green-3

It’s a darn good thing they tell you to sleep on your side throughout pregnancy because the nausea I felt throughout my first trimester completely eliminated any other sleeping position. Head propped on a pillow. Knees bent. With my arms cradling another pillow against my stomach because somehow, for some odd reason, the pillow-to-stomach medical trick makes the nausea a bit more bearable (at least until I have to use the bathroom. again).

Unfortunately for Darrin, the pillow that seems to best counteract my sudden bouts of nausea before bed is one of those Pillow Pets that looks like the University of Minnesota’s mascot, Goldy the Gopher (see HERE). Gifted to us nearly four years ago at our wedding, Goldy the pillow pet, who once enjoyed a quiet life buried in our basket of blankets behind the couch, is now a permanent fixture against my stomach whenever I try to fall asleep in bed. And poor Darrin, whenever he wants to lean over and give a me kiss before he turns off the light, encounters the somewhat terrifying glare of Goldy (again, see here) peeking out from beneath the covers as I squish the stupid pillow against my nauseated stomach. Pregnancy, now, has reduced my palette to that of an infant and has forced me, nearly every night, to fall asleep with a stuffed animal.

I’m hoping that as my bump grows, my nausea will lessen, and then Goldy can go back to his place behind our living room couch. Until then, it’ll me + baby + Darrin +…..Goldy. All falling asleep in our queen-sized bed. Here’s to hoping for less nausea in the weeks to come! Because one of those things is just not like the others…

Hope you feel better and better every day! And…at least it’s not a double bed! 🙂
