Baby sister has returned home from her tour of The Netherlands, which means that summer can officially begin. Fire up the barbeque! Scoop the ice cream! Toss around a few beach balls! We spent the other night eating tacos (soooo Dutch) and listening to her tell a countless number of stories from her time in Delft, Dordrecht, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, etc. I’m somewhat surprised she didn’t walk off the plane wearing wooden shoes and carrying a fresh bouquet of tulips. The Netherlands has always been on our travel list, and I may have spent too many minutes traveling around the country via Google Satellite…but anyways. Sophie is home! Summer has begun! And Darrin and I are off to a baseball game to celebrate the season. Let’s go Twins (and pass the tray of cheese curds)!
And now for an interesting tidbit!
According to the oh so astute Google Translate, the Dutch word for “amazing” is “verbazingwekkend.” And the phrase “wekkend” in “verbazingwekkend” looks a whole lot like “weekend.” How brilliant are the Dutch to include “wekkend” in a word that means “amazing”?! You’re right, Holland. The weekend IS amazing. And your language sure doesn’t let us forget that fact. High five from America.
So from me to you, I hope your Tuesday is VERBAZINGWEKKEND!
P.S. if any of you sweet readers speak Dutch and are laughing at Google’s horrible translation of the word “amazing,” feel free to correct me and then tell me how lame Google Translate can be.
