That Time I Met My Enemy In the Sink

Sometimes Gracefully Blu Pepper Dress Sometimes Gracefully Blu Pepper Dress Sometimes Gracefully Blu Pepper DressIf you must know, I was completely ambushed by one of my most fearsome enemies over the weekend while I was cleaning up the war zone that was our kitchen counter and sink. The night before was an “oh my gosh I’m so tired just leave everything out on the counter and clean it up in the morning” kind of night, so I woke up early with a “clean this first and then you can shower” kind of mindset. I brewed a fresh pot of coffee, Clorox wiped the counters, threw away the trash, and innocently went to fill my glass of water in the sink when I found him.

{cue gasps, scary movie music, screams, and other horrifying sound effects}

He was clinging to the wall of the sink, all of his silvery bristles and legs slowly inching closer and closer to my kitchen counter and everything else I knew to be safe. After making eye contact with the creature from Hell, I {obviously} screamed, dropped my glass, and started breathing like a pregnant woman trying to catch her breath during labor. Insects are not my thing, you guys. Especially insects that are about the size of my palm and look like they came straight from Mount Doom. No thank you. God and I are having a little discussion when I get on up to heaven about how in the world the silverfish was ever a “good idea.”

I mean seriously.

But back to the story: I screamed, dropped my glass, further embodied the whole “girls don’t like bugs” stereotype, and let Darrin smush the invader with a paper towel. Personally, I was hoping to grind him up in the garbage disposal, but Darrin thought that might have been a bit inhumane…

I may have gone a bit crazy.

made asked Darrin to help me clean out the cupboards underneath our sink, just in case the 30 legged spawn of Satan decided to lay eggs somewhere in the corner and breed…but we found nothing of the kind, which, I’ll admit, allowed me to sleep that night. I’m seriously hoping that we don’t have a silverfish infestation on our hands. Darrin tries to reassure me with the classic “they’re more afraid of you than you are of them” line, but I know better. I’m sure they can sense my fear through every bristle on their beady little bodies. Now I’m just patiently waiting for their next attack…and I’m praying that it doesn’t occur in the shower…

I’ll keep you posted.

On a completely unrelated and a bit more “fancy” note, I’ve been loving these popover/ crop overlay dresses lately. They offer the look of a crop top without the “if I raise my arms will my grandma see my midriff?” concern. Talk about winning. The one I’m wearing is pretty old by Blu Pepper, but I’ve linked a few more below! Also, are chunky hair barrettes still a thing? Minneapolis has “gone humid” on us as of late…so this barrette that I found at the bottom of my bin of hair supplies {dates all the way back to prom circa 2007…so it’s vintage or something} was just what I needed to “beat the heat,” as they say! 🙂

Hope you have an awesome and silverfish-free Tuesday!

    Your hair looks gorgeous! And I am petrified of bugs, especially spiders. Makes me cringe thinking of it.

    Ugh I feel your pain! I have the most intense fear of cockroaches and saw one at work the other day. It was traumatizing :/ On a lighter note- love your boots!

    OK so the anticipation was killing me, one. I had no idea what those things were ever called. I assumed science didn’t even know about them yet, two. And finally, hair on my shoulder just scared me — ashamed, lol.
