My nighttime routine of waking up nearly every hour on the hour was a bit more enjoyable the other night as I sat up in bed just as a massive bolt of lightning illuminated our bedroom for a few brief seconds. Thunderstorm season has officially descended upon Minneapolis, and I can’t tell you how much I love falling asleep to the rhythms of heavy rain smattering against our windows. My groggy, 2am brain began to imagine how Baby B would respond to her first encounter with a thunderstorm, or at what point in her life would we be woken up by the gentle nudges of a little girl fearful of the lightning flashes and booms from outside. I’m sure her scientifically-inclined father will be more than eager to explain to her how thunderstorms are atmospherically created, and I fell back asleep imagining a future 2am science discussion taking place on our bed as a storm rolls through.
Of course, thunderstorm season also means that dreaded Minnesota humidity has returned, and let me tell you! These hot and humid days are quite the experience when you’re also lugging around a mini heater in your belly. My short walk from my car into Target the other day both increased my heart rate and had me nearly glistening with sweat, a combination that forced me to literally “chill out” in the frozen food section for a solid ten minutes. It’s going to be a hot summer, folks. I’ve got a feeling that I’ll be living in lightweight and fluttery dresses like this one from Old Navy. FYI: it’s currently under $20 and comes in a fresh summer white. I mean, YES PLEASE.
