Thinking Pink

With baby girl growing on the daily, my pregnant mind has drifted towards all things pink: pink maternity dresses (i.e. this one from Asos), pink onesies, pink nursery pillows, pink quilts, pink baby bows… even the bottles of Pepto Bismol lining the pharmacy shelves get me in the mood to shop for Baby B.

And we all know how darling a nursery room decorated with bottles of Pepto can be.

(Just kidding)

Darrin and I finally began the baby registry process over the weekend, and my goodness is “process” the best word to describe the occasion. The websites sure make registering for everything your baby needs seem like a simple task. Easy to navigate categories! A little percentage bar that tells you how complete your registry is becoming! Pictures of cute babies lining the webpage, in case you forgot WHY you were registering! How helpful!

But my brief moment of “I totally know what I’m doing!” confidence quickly turned to “Holy swear words Batman, what the heck does a baby actually NEED?” terror once I began browsing the 50+ options for car seats, strollers, nursing pillows, baby monitors, teething rings…

It’s easy to get lost in the saturated abyss that is the baby industry, folks. Luckily I married Mr. Research, who is not about to add any item to our registry without citing at least five credible sources that say we MUST.

But moms. Old and new. What was one item that you loved as a mother to a newborn that I need to add to our registry? I’m all ears!

I don’t know if this is a registry item, but my must-have was the Moses Basket my mom used for me as a baby. I hauled baby EVERYWHERE in that thing, she slept there while I showered, she slept there while I napped on the couch, we took it outside… it was a game changer.

Oh that sounds like such a great idea! Especially for those moments you mentioned when you don’t want to be away from baby. It’s officially on the list! 🙂

HALO swaddle sack!!! (Or at least something to swaddle baby with.) The HALO takes the tricky out of swaddling. My little girl loved being all wrapped up and slept so soundly!

And a sound machine for the nursery- many come with options like lullaby music, white noise, or an ocean wave sound. The one we still use to this day and baby is now a toddler can be found here:

Yes! I found those HALO swaddle sacks the other day and was like, “what a brilliant idea!” They’re definitely on our Amazon registry!

And a sound machine is a great idea. Didn’t even think of that! I’m definitely adding it!

Congrats, Grace! Jen, who now has a 1-year-old, says she could actually sleep at night (rather than worry) when her daughter was wearing an Oma Snuza SIDS monitor. It slips on the baby’s diaper under the belly button (baby sleeps on her back at this stage anyway) and will go off if baby stops breathing. Jen felt as though it was extra insurance …

That is such a great idea, and I’ll certainly be adding that to the registry. Or just buying one myself! Anything to make sleeping and getting rest during those first months easier! Thanks SO much!
