The Almost-Spring Season

Sometimes Gracefully Old Navy 3 Sometimes Gracefully Old Navy 1 Sometimes Gracefully Old Navy 4 Sometimes Gracefully Old Navy Sometimes Gracefully Old Navy 2

After teaching in the morning, I spent the entirety of my afternoon yesterday staring at my computer screen, attempting to churn out something academically interesting about Shakespeare. And wouldn’t you know it, practically everything has already been written on Shakespeare, so you can imagine how successful my afternoon transpired. But I had a bag of Starburst Jelly Beans cradled on my right arm, and a full liter of Diet Coke tempting me to my left {cue gasps from every dentist in Minnesota}, so I felt well prepared for a full afternoon of research. I’m a major fan of you, Shakespeare, but you sure can put a damper on the spring fever that’s hit Minneapolis.

Darrin and I walked to good ol’ Brit’s Pub the other night for St. Patrick’s Day (Saint Patrick was English, after all…) and listened to a group of mostly elderly men blast their bagpipes in the middle of the restaurant. I don’t how they had the stamina to both walk and bagpipe at the same time. Those instruments are massive. And I was feeling winded just walking the two quick miles it took to get to the pub (probably should lay off the Jelly Beans, I guess…). Darrin always imagines the kind of musical prodigies our future kids will be. They’ll of course have to learn the piano because DUH, and he’s also got them playing the violin and the saxophone. Maybe at the same time. But Darrin recently voiced his love for the cello, and I can only imagine our scrawny little redheaded children lugging around their cellos from band concert to band concert, because we all know their mom won’t be much help trying to lift the darned thing. Poor guys. Maybe they’ll take up the piccolo.

But until then, I’ll try focusing on this almost-spring season (this Old Navy dress sure makes that easy) and do my best to conquer this frustrating Shakespeare paper. Pass the Jelly Beans.
