Some Summer Optimism And A Summer List

All of this sunny, warm weather that we’ve been experiencing over here in Minneapolis has really put me in a happy mood. It’s crazy how just a hint of sunshine and the promise of a warm afternoon can make any dreary Monday morning a whole lot better. The grass is greener, the breeze is warmer, and I’m hoping that if I keep my window open long enough, cute little cartoon birdies will fly into my apartment and help me bake an apple pie. I’d trying singing to them {Enchanted, anyone?}, but I was an Alto II in choir…so my “princess voice” sounds a bit more like an “angry sailor voice.” Not exactly Disney worthy…but I digress. Back to my summer optimism!

Darebear and I are officially done with our spring semester, so we spent our Saturday morning eating celebratory omelets and making a list of everything we wanted to do this summer. It’s a very long list, but I thought I’d share a few of our date night ideas and weekday routines with you! I’ll be featuring a lot of our adventures over here on this little blog throughout the summer, so stay tuned! Here is just a handful of our ideas!

  • Picnics along the Mississippi: Darrin and I want to have weekly or bi-weekly picnics at different parks that are situated along the Mississippi. The majority of these parks are within walking distance from our home, so all we need is a cooler, a bottle of wine, and our very “classy” plastic wine glasses!
  • Bike Rides: Darrin was an avid biker growing up, so he’s got a list of beautiful places he’d like to bike around {Minnehaha Falls, Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, etc…}. Minneapolis was also recently ranked as the nation’s most bikeable city, so I’m sure we’ll be biking through the city as well!Β My thighs hurt just thinking about it.
  • Minneapolis Festivals: I’m so excited about the festivals that happen in Minneapolis throughout the summer. There’s the Polish Festival, the Irish Festival, the Stone Arch Bridge Festival, the Uptown Arts Festival, the Minneapolis Aquatennial…the list goes on and on and on.Β Bring on the crazy food and entertainment.
  • Lake Days: Minnesota is also known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” {apparently that number is closer to 11,000…but we don’t complain πŸ˜‰ }, soΒ we figured that aΒ couple days of the month spent relaxing on a lake sounded like a proper “Minnesotan” activity.
  • Farmer’s Market: Darrin and I live in an area where there are two farmer’s markets open during the week. One is open on Wednesdays on the University of Minnesota’s campus; the other is open on Saturdays and is within walking distance from our home. We’re trying to make an effort this summer to buy our vegetables and fruit and coffee from these local families and vendors. And I love walking home with a pretty bouquet of fresh flowers for the apartment!
  • Sporting Events: I’m married to a homegrown, Minnesota sports fan. We’ll be cheering on the Twins, heading to Vikings training camp, and rooting for the Lynx. I’m ready for a summer night spent at Target field, watching a baseball game, drinking a beer, and sharing a soft pretzel with my handsome redhead.

So there are just a few of our upcoming summer plans! I didn’t even mention our desire to explore the Science Museum and the Minnesota Zoo, nor did IΒ list the number of different restaurants and coffee shops we’re excited to visit! It’s going to be busy, but Darrin has a Google calendar all setup, so we’re not worried. πŸ˜‰

Do you have any fun summer plans or goals?

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
