It may have taken me almost three years of marriage, but I think I’ve finally (finally!) discovered my own Recipe Card Meal. When you get married, there’s always a whole lot of talk about “establishing traditions” and “making memories” and creating those “we’ll be doing this for years” kind of routines that you can share with your ever-growing family. And I’m a big fan of those traditions and memories and routines! A paint your face, wear a foam finger, and jeer at the opponent kind of fan! And as a fan of family traditions, I welcome the whole “family recipe” tradition. The handwritten recipes on aging notecards. “Secret sauces.” Tricks for cooking the perfect Thanksgiving turkey. Sign. Me. Up.
But since I’ve been married, I haven’t really found my own Recipe Card Meal…a meal that I can write in horrible cursive on some old notecard and say to my kids in the future “THIS is mom’s recipe!”
Salmon, my friends. I guess salmon is my Recipe Card Meal. Salmon?! Yes, salmon! We tried out salmon the other night, added a few variations of our own to the recipe, and wah-lah! We may have high-fived after the first bite.
[I’d write the recipe for you all, but I didn’t exactly measure anything…there was some lemon juice…salt…pepper…fingers crossed I can make again…]
So salmon! My very own Recipe Card Meal! Too bad no child under the age of 25 ever requests salmon for dinner. Guess I’ll just work on perfecting Kraft’s Macaroni and Cheese for now. 😉
