Why I Need To Do More Push-Ups

Some couples spend their afternoons or evenings having long discussions about their futures, their families, their dreams or concerns. They stare intently into each other’s eyes, furrow their brows, and try to determine how their significant other feels about their opinions and hopes for their life’s upcoming “seasons.” While those topics are incredibly important and {obviously} necessary to discuss, Darrin and I have been staring into each other’s eyes, furrowing our brows, and trying to interpret our opinions and hopes concerning our future dog.

We know we want kids, a home, and a yard…we just don’t know what kind of puppy we want peeing near our kids, in our home, and around our yard.

Darrin is on this “Great Dane kick” that has me a little worried about my future walks and jogs with our family dog. Knowing my luck, we’ll buy a cute and lovable Great Dane puppy that will grow to not only be taller and heavier than me {I’m a whopping 5’1 on a good day} but also completely ADD. One minute, we’ll be jogging down our neighborhood street, enjoying the cool air of a beautiful Minnesota morning, and the next, our Dane will spot a squirrel scurrying up a tree or a rabbit darting through the bushes, and he’ll be overwhelmed with that common dog-desire to chase anything that tries to evade his presence. My arm will jerk to the right, I’ll bemoan my lack of arm strength and regret not doing enough push-ups in my life, and then I’ll be dragged through the neighbor’s yard on my back as my family beast tries to catch the rodent-like creature that may or may not have only been a tree blowing in the wind.

Also, as my father says: big dogs mean big poops.

He has such a way with words. 😉

But anyways. I’ve also heard that Great Danes are awesome family dogs, so for all you Great Dane lovers out there, we haven’t eliminated them from our list! We’ve just determined that I’m going to need to do a whole lot more push-ups and maybe stock up on those Jillian Michaels workout DVDs before I attempt to take the little woof out for a walk.

All I want is a fat and wrinkly pug that will waddle around the yard, staring back at me with his big bug-eyes and obnoxiously large, panting smile.

Maybe we’ll compromise and make room for both a Great Dane and a fat Pug! Or maybe we’ll just wait for a while and let our kids decide.

Naaaaaaaah. 😉

P.S. Some more of my favorite floral shorts for summer below!
