Meet: The Herkimer Pub and Brewery

The other night Darrin and I traveled to Uptown {a pocket of Minneapolis mostly known for it’s artsy-ness} to meet a couple for drinks and burgers at this little pub called Herkimer. I love pub food {burgers, fries, onion rings, wings} but I realize that it’s probably not the kind of food that will keep you from having a heart attack later on in life. So at Herkimer I tried to order something a bit healthier off their menu, and I was most definitely pleased with my choice! Herkimer Herkimer

Darrin and I caught the last 5 minutes of happy hour, and our waitress was sweet enough to rush our drink orders to the bar so we could snag a deal on “Two for One” beers. Of course, we didn’t realize that she was putting in a “Two for One” order for theΒ bothΒ of us…we assumed that we would get two beers. One we paid for and one {for me} that was free. Darrin and I are not heavy drinkers {though IΒ doΒ love a good glass of wine…Darrin just prefers Mountain Dew}, so when our waitress brought us 4 glasses of beer we were a bit surprised, to say the least. And because Darrin is a frugal Dutchman, he made sure we finished those suckers. Gotta get our money’s worth. πŸ˜‰

Beer Herkimer Herkimer A.L.T.Like I mentioned before, I didn’t order a hamburger. Herkimer is known for their hamburgers, and Darrin ordered their “Hot Burger” {jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and hot herbed sour cream}, which he would definitely recommend.Β IfΒ you like spicy food. I decided to go the sandwich route and ordered and “A.L.T.” Avocado. Lettuce. Tomato. And some cheese and chipotle mayo {that I asked for on the side…too much mayo can just beΒ tooΒ much mayo…}. I love sweet potato fries, so I opted for those rather than their tater tots, which, if Darrin was writing this post, he would recommend as well.

But I was delightfully surprised by this sandwich! I’m an avocado person, so I was happy that the “bulk” of this sandwich was avocado. The bread was seasoned and toasted perfectly. If you’d like to roll your eyes at my arguably plain choice of a sandwich, feel free to do so. I, being a picky eater, was pretty darn impressed with my “out of the box” choice! So if you’re ever in Minneapolis visiting the Uptown area, stop by Herkimer!

For all you veggie burger lovers, our friend tried Herkimer’s veggie burger and loved it. It’s made with black bean quinoa, fresh pico de gallo, and an almond basil pesto. You can wipe the drool off your keyboard now.

Happy Saturday! Darrin and I are heading out to brunch for my birthday today. We’ll see what other fun things he has in store! πŸ™‚

This looks amazing – I’ve weirdly become a bit of a burger field since going gluten-free some time ago (bunless please!). Burgers & beer pretty much sound like a perfect outing. Lovely photos!

Thanks! They are such a great combination! Going bunless {sounds scandalous! πŸ˜‰ } is such a great option! I’ll have to try that next!

Ahaha, I would love to be able to eat the bun but if I ate that much bread I’d have a terrible stomach ache for like a day and a half. πŸ˜›

I love catching happy hour and that was very sweet of the waitress to be quick. I would have been surprised too if they came to our table with 4 beers – that’s quite the happy hour.
