Less-Than-Graceful Moments!

Sometimes Gracefully Monday

Happy Monday! Darrin and I just returned from our quick, weekend trip to Iowa! We saw one of my baby sisters star in her college musical, and then we saw my other baby sister get engaged! High fives for marriage! So we both have this strange mixture of adrenaline and exhaustion pumping through our brains…we’ll see how that mixture changes as the day progresses {I’m guessing exhaustion will soon takeover…but who cares? Marriage!}.

Here are a few less-than-graceful moments from the trip! Aside from the fact that the pictures featured above were taken in a very public, college gymnasium…that’s right, undergraduates, my husband and I are adults. And we take silly-faced selfies in public. Hashtag defying conventional adulthood gravity.

  1. So I mustered up the courage to say hello to my old professor who was seated on the opposite end of our seat row. I pushed myself out of my seat, ran around the back of my seat section within the auditorium, and somewhat startled my old professor as I crouched next to his seat and said in a surprisingly thick, Minnesotan accent “Hi theeeerrrrrrre!”. And of course, as soon asΒ  my professor recovers himself, recognizes my face, and begins to respond, the lights dim and the show begins. And I’m stuck crouching in the middle of the aisle Β {yes, crouching} next to my professor. So. Awkward.
  2. Some people forget to pack their toothbrush or an extra pair of socks. I forget to pack another shirt for our second day in Iowa. “No, you’re not having deja vu…I did wear this yesterday…”.
  3. The wind was gusting hard and fast over the weekend, and I was literally blown over by one particular “breeze.” I tried to play it off like I just tripped over the curb, but Darebear didn’t believe me.Β Β For a minute there, I felt like that one cow from The Wizard of Oz who is swept away from his peaceful spot on the grass into a monster tornado… it was just for a minute, but you were there, and you were there, and you were there…. πŸ˜‰ .
  4. I was hiding in a closet, holding my camera, ready to take pictures of my baby sister saying “Yes” to one of the best guys in the world, when my hand started to cramp. I had to set the camera down so I could stretch my hand and rub my palm, only to hear them entering into the room! I quickly grabbed the camera and held it in one hand while I tried to “shake out” my hand cramp from behind the closet door. I looked real professional, but the cramp went away! Nailed it!
  5. Upon entering the restaurant where we met my parents and my soon-to-be brother-in-law’s parents to celebrate the engagement, I promptly and obnoxiously shouted “They’re getting maaaaaaarrried!!” because I just could not contain my excitement. I was also promptly and obnoxiously given a whole lot of “Oh my gosh, why are you shouting in a restaurant” stares. Nothing to see here, people. Go back to eating your salads. Just a big sister so darn proud and happy for her baby sister. Deal with it. πŸ˜‰

We had such a great weekend, filled with celebration after celebration! Hopefully you’re Monday won’t be as exhausting as I’m anticipating mine to be! But I’ve got a pot of coffee brewing and it’s raining outside, so I’m one cozy and happy camper.

Thanks for reading! Happy Monday!

so exciting that you get to help your sister plan a wedding. it’s also pretty awesome that your other sister is in a musical- which one?? maybe she can sing at the wedding? or maybe i shouldn’t be putting the 2 things together just because they happened to be in the same paragraph…

and as for wearing the same thing two days in a row? no shame – i do it on purpose when i know i won’t be seeing the same people πŸ™‚
