After months of conversations with Darrin’s elementary school cousins regarding The Lego Movie and how awesome and funny and “super cool” and “oh my gosh it was so good you’ve got to see it but first let me tell you about all the funny parts” and amazing the movie was, Darrin and I finally got around to seeing The Lego Movie the other night. Have you seen that movie? It’s darn cute and goes well with a bag of kettle corn and a husband who loves his movie references. We’re all about animated films over here at the Beekman household. The Lego Movie, Madagascar (1, 2 and 3, my friends), Batman cartoons, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast, The Incredibles…just to name a few of our favorites. I gave Frozen two thumbs up because of the whole “sisterhood” theme, and Olaf is just the sweetest, but Darrin was a bit upset about the main antagonist having red hair. Sure, he says, when they finally depict a guy with red hair, he’s super evil….grrreat. He’s only slightly bitter. 😉 We even attended the midnight premiere of Up, which was most definitely worth the overpriced ticket and popcorn and public crying after the first 5 minutes {you know the scene…}. Children’s movies are just necessary sometimes. Sure, we love our action packed adventures and our psychological thrillers, but sometimes, we just need to enjoy the simple irony of a cartoon snowman dreaming about summer, or laugh at a couple of penguins trying to escape the zoo. So we exchanged our academic world for a world built of legos, bright colors, and corny one-liners. 100 minutes of pure goofiness that we’ll remember and, after a million “you have to see it you have to see it you have to see it”s, finally be able to share with Darrin’s elementary school cousins. I mean, in order to connect with the goofy conversations of a 6 year old, you’ve got to do a little goofy research…and be a little goofy yourself, right?  😉

What are your favorite children’s movies? Any recommendations?

One of my kids favorite movies when they were younger was The Pagemaster with Macauley Culkin. I found a copy in the $5 bin at Walmart a few ago. Loaned it to a friend and *had* to watch it with her 6 year old this weekend. :o)What a great movie!

Oh I LOVE the 5$ movie bin at Walmart! So many of my college weekends began with sifting through that bin and picking out our Friday night movie! I’ve got to check that one out!

whenever i type in your url, i always think if your old slogan ‘sometimes gracefully, other times… not’ and it makes me smile 🙂 it was something like that, right? anyway — we love disney movies over here (and all musicals — sometimes the soundtrack is the same, so i had throw it in the ring!) and while lion king is jon’s favorite, frozen is mine 🙂

Haha maybe I’ve got to figure out a way to incorporate that into the header! And I’m a major Disney fan…Frozen is just so dang fun. And I love The Lion King! Had that movie memorized when I was little. I want to see the musical!!

I am so envious of your hair, it is beautiful! I still love Parent Trap, not animated but it takes me back to my childhood. You can’t go wrong with Pixar either, Finding Nemo especially. Makes my heart melt every time, hehe! Kath x
