Getting Lost and Somewhat Sunburnt

Sometimes Gracefully

Sometimes Gracefully

My mantra this week appears to be “wear any and all clothing that feels like pajamas.” First, these pants. Then, these shorts. I’d categorize this week under the hashtag “winning.” Insert a whole lot of thumbs up emojis…and probably a smiley face with hearts for eyes. This summer is all about pajamas, people. I suggest you hop on this fashion train real fast.

The hot temperatures have finally reached Minneapolis, and yesterday reached a sunny high of 80. The trees looked greener, the birds sounded chirpier, so I thought I’d step-up to the “wife plate” and swing a home run for marriage by meeting Darrin for lunch. In an effort to completely abandon the belief that chicken fingers are only for children, I requested that Darebear and I head to Raising Cane’s for one of the best chicken finger baskets in the Twin Cities. His seven year old, Batman loving self most certainly agreed.

Sometimes Gracefully

So around lunch time I laced up my Nikes and embarked on a walk that ended up being much longer than anticipated. There are people in this world who don’t mind being lost. When they miss their exit, they roll their eyes and exclaim “Whatever! There’ll be some road that will take us somewhere up ahead!”. If they’ve been wandering in circles for hours, they say “No worries! It’s about the journey, not the destination!”.

I am not one of those people. Being lost raises my temperature, makes my palms sweaty, and transforms everything around me {both humans and objects alike} into obstacles that are constantly “in the way” of my final destination. Now, I could easily take this reality and apply it to some philosophical understanding about life and coping with stress and handling “the unknown,” but it’s Friday, you guys. Let’s take a little philosophical breather.

So anyways.

I was lost. And that summer sun that Minneapolis had been missing this entire winter was beating down on both the sidewalk and my skin. So I was also sunburnt. Not the best combination, I’ll admit.

Three random side streets, one alleyway, and one privately owned yard later, I was finally in Darrin’s office, ready for some chicken fingers and fries. And some sunscreen. My face and arms had that crunchy “you’ve been out under the sun for too long” feeling. A feeling my redheaded husband knows oh so well. We walked to Cane’s, found a little booth to ourselves, dunked our chicken fingers in one rockin’ spicy pepper sauce, and talked about our days. A happy ending to a character building experience.

Again, if we were to analyze this little story from a philosophical or psychological perspective, we could discuss topics like “facing your fears,” “resting in the unknown,” or, my personal favorite, “how Grace’s lack of directional understanding causes her problems and could be solved if she took the time to read a map.”

But today is Friday! We’ll deal with all that later. 🙂

Happy weekend! You can shop the look below!

Oooh that looks like such a comfy look, love the bright colors too! And I’m totally with you… I absolutely freak out if I get lost. I actually freak out if anything fails to go as planned. I’m a bit uptight.
