Doing Football Things At Vikings Training Camp

I started trying to understand the strange and impressive game that is “American football” immediately after I spotted this handsome redheaded boy in my high school English class. He played football; I knew nothing about football. So how does a girl strike up a conversation? Research. Obviously. IΒ did my best to memorize players names, team mascots, season schedules, and random factsΒ {Did you know that Mr. Norm Van Brocklin was the Minnesota Vikings first head football coach? No? Well there ya go.}. And it paid off! We dated for 6 years, Darrin put a ring on it, andΒ thenΒ I admitted to not knowing very much about football or his beloved Minnesota Vikings {life’s allll about the timing… πŸ˜‰ }. So football holds a special place in my heart solely because it helped me snag a date with my future hubby {three cheers for football!}. Of course, Darrin claims to have known about my football incompetence long before marriage was on the table, but I’m sureΒ that I played the role of “knowledgeable football fan” very convincingly… πŸ˜‰ .

In any case, Darrin has been teaching me more and more about the sport and the players and the rules and everything in-between. He’s turned me into a loyalΒ Vikings fan who is {yes! I admit it!} stoked for the upcoming season. Last week, we took a trip down to Mankato, MN with my baby sister Maddie and her fiance Andrew to watch the purple and gold practice at training camp. Darrin and I wore our matching Adrian Peterson jerseys because, well, matching is “cool” when you’re married {I think}, and obviously we’reΒ true fans, so buying the same jersey was inevitable.Β I did my best to figure out what the heck was happening on the field, and Darrin did his best to avoid getting sunburned. We weren’t exactly successful. I still had a lot of questions {mostly about who was who because I had forgotten my glasses…*face palm*} and Darrin still got a little burntΒ {per usual}. But our day spent with the future newlyweds was one for the books. Or for the blog. We chatted about football, weddings, work, school, and anything else our hearts desired. There were early morning coffees, a late lunch at The Tav on the Ave for the best wings in town, and a whole lot of excitement for their upcoming nuptials. All a midst the backdrop ofΒ a massive green field populated by sweaty men wearing purple. You just can’t beat it. πŸ˜‰

Anyone else excited for football season? Not going to lie, I’m a major fan of this jersey I received for my birthday last year. The team gives me a good excuse to wear more purple. πŸ˜‰

Have a great day!

It’s such a good time visiting your favorite team! Even if your future hubby isn’t a football fan, you’ll just have to drag him along for the hot dogs and beer! πŸ˜‰ Love it!
