Final Dome Days

Minnesota Vikings Minnesota VikingsLast week Darrin and I ventured to the Metrodome to watch our beloved Minnesota Vikings take on the Washington Red Skins for a little date night and much needed escape from academia. And while I know that I recently admitted to a number of embarrassing moments and down right annoying aspects of stadium etiquette, I’ll have you know that I so enjoyed my date with the cutest redhead in town, and it sure helped to brush up on my “football lingo” before the game. I was sure to shout “Touchdown!” rather than “Home run!” at the appropriate moments. Hashtag go sports.

Minnesota wasn’t as bitter and windy last week as it has been this week, so we bundled up and walked across the bridge into the city for the game. You know date night is going to be marvelous when you don’t have to pay for parking. Happy husband. Happy wife. Happy wallet.

The stadium no longer allows purses due to people doing crazy and horrible things …so all of these photos are brought to you by my little Iphone. So I apologize for the quality…or somewhat “lack thereof”.

Unsurprisingly, our seats were too small for comfort and the fans around us were too obnoxious for friendly conversation, but I didn’t mind. I just held my hubby’s hand, listened to his running commentary, and tried to photo bomb as many photos as I could. Although, I didn’t really have to try. It’s not too difficult to sneak yourself into someone else’s picture when you’re all cramped together, and not by choice. The group of guys in front of us must have been visiting the Twin Cities, so they made sure to take photos not only of themselves but also of the people sitting around them…you can bet my “what-are-you-doing-get-that-lens-out-of-my-face-who-are-you” expressions looked pretty darn frame worthy.

The Vikings are getting a new stadium that begins construction after this season {“Yay! More construction!” said no one ever} so this was my last football game at “the Dome”…the last game I went to was in high school and Darrin and I had been only recently dating. It’s such a strange and wonderful feeling coming back to a place a different person and seeing that place in a new way. Granted, the poets usually write about that feeling in connection with nature, not a football stadium {I’m looking at you, William Wordsworth}, but the feeling still remains. I’m just glad I could share my last visit to the Dome with Darrin. It was such a fun little date night, and the Vikings won for a change! So we must have been good luck! 😉

Happy Wednesday! We’ve been a bit busy preparing for our upcoming trip to Iowa this weekend, so let’s hope today has a number of productive moments mixed with a few moments of relaxation! 🙂

Looks like tons of fun! I haven’t been to a pro football game but I definitely want to in the near future!
