Failing My New Year’s Resolution: A Less-Than-Graceful Moment

Sometimes Gracefully Monday

Darrin likes to ask me a lot of what I like to call “The Mom Questions” throughout the year. Questions like What are you excited for this fall? What are you hoping to accomplish this summer? Have any anxieties about the upcoming semester?…those “big questions” that your sixth grade self would expect your mom to ask you and your siblings quietly seated around the dinner table. So Darrin, on our way home on New Year’s Eve night, ended the year twenty-fourteen by asking his favorite Mom Questions, and we spent our drive back to our little apartment planning and brainstorming resolutions for 2015 that would motivate us to be better organized, task-oriented, and healthier.

Howeveeeer, the rest of that New Year’s Eve week was also a holiday from work for both me and Darrin, which meant that our original spirit of motivation and determination that inspired us on New Year’s Eve night seemed to disappear rather quickly the morning after. Our Friday morning intentions were to make breakfast while watching the newest season of Modern Family…but, as the story so often goes, one episode turned into eight episodes which turned into twelve, and before we knew it, the sun was down, the street lamps were burning, and Day One of our 2015 New Year Resolutions was an ultimate fail.

But hey! We can now proudly claim to have seen all of Modern Family season five, and I’ve learned how to successfully organize my bedside table so that my computer, phone, coffee mug, and bag of snacks all fit nicely within reach. Take THAT, 2015….

Okay okay okaaaay…I promise we’ll try that whole “2015 Resolutions! Let’s Do This!” attitude again tomorrow.

Round Two, I guess.

Hope you have a great start to your week!

I like my January 1 to be as low key and lazy as possible. I prefer to think that resolutions can be done in the other 364 days.

Sounds like the perfect New Year’s Day & organizing a nightstand is a huge accomplishment! 🙂
